Local X Change prioritizes collaboration and civic engagement as a tactic to empower learners to discover original design solutions and gain agency with technology. Scaffolded instruction in 3D design and digital fabrication builds confidence among learners who don’t identify as tech savvy and enables all learners to engage in the creative process to achieve authentic design solutions.

Through educator trainings and informal learning opportunities, Local X Change develops new strategies for learners of all ages to solve problems and generate knowledge. Teacher trainings equip educators with technical competencies specialized for a discipline and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. Informal learning opportunities increase digital literacy, spark curiosity, and build community.

Since 2017, artists and educators Sean Derry and Sharon Massey have been collaborating as Local X Change. They have been invited to present their curricular initiatives at digital fabrication and STEAM conferences internationally. Their work is supported in part by grant funding from regional and federal agencies.
